Thoughts for the day…

I find myself full of emotions, and now thoughts, the day after my country elected that guy to be their President. Here they are, in no particular order.

Christians are supposed to stand with the oppressed. Well, at least we know where to find them.

My daughter was part of a school production of Diary of Anne Frank recently. You know those yellow stars they forced the Jews to wear? Black people’s skin is that in America, and has been for a long time.

Maybe I should get a bumper sticker that says “I’m a sympathizer with the oppressed”. Everyone would think I meant them. Some would be right.

I saw my first example of Trump’s people yesterday. At the local Subway, the two people behind the counter (immigrants by skin color and accents) were being berated by a guy who demanded that they not cheat him on his vegetables and choice of cheese. All they said was, “this one or this one?”, yet he continued to harass them. He spoke loud enough and angrily enough that I couldn’t place my order standing next to him, because that would interfere with his order — and we couldn’t have that.

Both of my daughters have LGBTqi friends that they now worry about the safety of. Hell, I have LGBTqi friends that I worry about the safety of. But they’re in High School. It’s not supposed to be the kind of thing High School years are about. I was kind of hoping more for math, English, history, and science. They were hoping for fun, I’m sure. Fear wasn’t even supposed to be on the list, unless they didn’t do their homework.

American democracy has proved that suicidal thoughts lead to suicidal behaviors.

My friend Ron is in a touring company of “Judgement at Nuremberg”. It’s not meant to be a present-tense reality show, but i guess it is now — hosted by Donald Trump.

Of “fight” or “flight”, I definitely choose flight. It’s just that I have too many friends I’d have to leave behind, and I can’t do that to them.

Songs going through my head: “Everybody I love you. Everybody, I do. Though your heart is in anger, I need your love to see me through” — Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young

“You are the light of the world” — Godspell

“War is not the answer, for only love can conquer hate” — Marvin Gaye

“This is not America” — David Bowie
Virginia Satir and Jesus know the way out of this. I have to remember that. Sanity and love.

The Spirit of God lives within all of us, but damn, it’s hard to find sometimes.

Denise Clapsaddle is ahead of the curve in understanding the hurt of the working class in her town.

We all make mistakes.

I have to go to work now.

Peace,
John
