“Rights” Nobody Has

Just came back from seeing a client and had to get a bunch of things off my chest.  My client asked me if her boyfriend had the right to do X, Y, or Z to her.  Just because she had to ask, I thought I’d write down the ones that came to mind. Though she is a woman, these apply to everybody, not just women.

[Author’s Note: This article is not for children, just based on some of the language used.  I want all kids everywhere to understand what’s in here, because it’s important.  It’s up to adults to summarize for kids, though, when neccessary.]

No one has the right to push you, kick you, shove you, strangle you, twist your arm or any other body part.  No one has the right to pull your hair, jab you, stick you with a needle, stab you, cut you, speak ill of you in front of your friends.  No one has the right to grab your private parts so that they hurt in any way. No one has the right to put their private parts on you, in you, near you, on top of you unless you say  it’s OK. Nobody can make you have an abortion. Nobody has the right to rape you. Nobody has the right to threaten you if you don’t have sex with them.  Any kind of sex.

No has the right to use the words:

Bitch.

Cunt.

Whore.

Slut.

Nigger.

Spick.

Wop.

Diego.

Wetback.

Chink.

Faggot.

Nobody has the right to own you. Nobody has the right to sell you.

No one has the right to say “I love you” after doing any of the above, without truly apologizing first.

Nobody has the right to intentionally take your stuff — your money, the things you own, treasured memories, your childhood, your adulthood, your teenage years.

Nobody has the right to tell you what your truth is — what you think, feel, or ought to act like.

Certainly, no one gets to kill you. No even gets to TRY to kill you.

Nobody has the right to make you do anything against your will, provided it doesn’t interfere with them.

Nobody has the right to deprive a child of basic needs if they have other options. Nobody has the right to do any of the above things  to children. Ever.

Nobody has the right to encourage an alcoholic or an addict to drink or use drugs. Nobody has the right to “turn children on” to drugs or alcohol.  It’s not a gift, even if it’s free.

Nobody has the right to assume things about you that they don’t actually know.  Nobody has the right to  use those assumptions to define all of who you are.   Nobody has the right to say, “You’re just a ….”, whatever it is.

Nobody has the right to be clever at your expense. Nobody has the right to stalk you, control you, manipulate you or generally make you do things that hurt your spirit.

Nobody has the right to bully another person. No group of people have the right to bully you.

Nobody has the right to make you keep a secret that hurts you. Nobody has the right to threaten you. Cajole you, taunt you, mock you, or call you names. Nobody has the right to withhold money you earned, to make you do something. Nobody has the right to say “I determine who you are”.

Nobody has the right to intentionally hurt you.

Anybody who does is an idiot, and, if they think otherwise, they can kiss my a.. .

The list may grow over time, but that’s what I’ve got for now.

Not really peacefully,

John
